August is a native of Enoch.
Journal Entry[]
August is a native of Enoch, seemingly capable of understanding human speech and even communicating, somewhat. You felt an eerie connection to the creature when it focused it's mystic attention on you. The native disappeared shortly after you freed it from Scurlock's dungeon, leaving you and your crew with a million questions.
---
August was discovered by Tiago near the Ancient Ruins and grew close to him, learning his language. But August was captured by Kang's fighters shortly after and shackled in Scurlock's lab, where the doctor experimented on the native, trying to discover how August was immune to the fungus. After August's escape, you found the native among the ancient ruins, conducting some kind of ritual next to the obelisk. August's efforts somehow calmed the Anomaly storm, saving you and the rest of your crew from it.
August's pacifist nature has always prevented the native from commuting violence. He could not resist when attacked by Bailey in the ancient ruins of the forest, and hid when the convoy was ambushed by Ferals in the cave.
---
August led you to a village, nestled deep in the desert, built on the slopes of a hill. The structures don't look far off from the ruins discovered in the forest, except this place hasn't been abandoned. August believes this is where those beasts brought Jakub and the rest. August implied this village was the native's home. But it seems the beasts have occupied the huts and houses now, and they don't seem to give a shit about who might have lived there before.
In the village, you learned this was once August's home and believed it had been taken over by the Ferals. When monsters attacked in the canyons, however, you discovered the true connection between the Pax and the Ferals. As Tiago was pinned down by a monster, about to have his throat ripped out, August did the only thing the being's nature permitted. The native stepped in front of the giant obelisk, extracted a shard and transformed into a Feral. A Feral August fought off the monsters that threatened Tiago's life, but in this wild, bestial, raging state, August could not distinguish friend from foe, and began attacking Tiago. You had no choice but to kill August.
August must have known this would happen. August knew this sacrifice was the only way to save Tiago's life.
The native was laid to rest at the entrance to the canyons.
Trivia[]
- August's name is actually closer to Agsst, it's just what it sounds closest like in human tongue.
- After entering the sandstorm, it is shown that August simply can become invisible rather than "moving in ways we don't understand," as Tiago said.
